 Great for building, a little awkward for playMar 15, 2010
Great set for building, my 7 year old got it for his birthday, and it took him a day (completely mesmerized). However, once built the wings are too heavy so do not stay up whist playing, but fall down.
All in all great for building, and now looking good on display, just tricky to play with.

This topped my son's Christmas list this year. He's put together more than his fair share of Lego sets, and really wanted this one next. Typically, we leave him on his own to do all the building, and he checks in with us once in a while to show his progress. This time, however, he actually needed a little help.
As another reviewer noted, there are some details that are easy to overlook when putting this together. The place where my son hit a snag was when adding the wings. The diagrams in the manual DO indicate that the pistons are closed when adding the wings, but this fact really ought to be emphasized. Because he overlooked this detail when putting it together, he and I had about 15 minutes of backtracking to figure out exactly what went wrong.
It was a good learning experience...frustration is an important part of solving problems. I just think it's worth pointing out that this is one of the first Lego sets where he experienced that kind of frustration.

The torrent is one of lego's best sets ever! Now if your wondering, the cock pit can fit your clone pilot's(a very rare and cool minifig) sniper gun(behind the seat). The only thing I would be careful about is that this is a higher level set, I'v been doing legos for 6 years(I'm 11)and it was a friendly challenge. Includes some rare parts such as a super long axles that can come in handy for most projects. I think that a thing most people wonder when they see the box is were do you hold it, I think the best thing to do is hold the middle wing. For me the most frustrating thing is that sometimes the slide-out cock pit sometimes dosn't slide back in and you have to fiddle with it a little. The only other thing is that the flick-fire torpedoes are pretty much bombs. Over all, this is a nice set if you are a lego master pretty much.

What a wonderful ship the V-19 Torrent is. Just fabulous in design as well as playability(is that a word?);)
Great set to build with fun, intricate parts to connect to make all 3 wings move simultaneously to deploy and retract the landing gear. Looks great in either position plus it's durable and fun to play with.
Pros-Design, build, 3 wings simultaneously deploy and retract, playability, slide open cockpit, plus neat Clone-Pilot w/rifle.
Cons-Really none BUT, when building please follow carefully the positioning of the landing gear segments. Must be accurate at all phases to make the wings raise and lower properly.
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED for any Lego collector or newbie. Lot's of fun!

the V-19 Torrent was very tricky to build because all the wings and the feet work together and every piece must be put on right. Don't try to mod any of this ship because it won't work. This ship is much bigger that in all the pictures so beware.
pros:
-very acurate and detailed
-wings work well when put on right
-nice clone pilot
cons:
-very hard to build
-hard to hold
this ship is a great addition to any army and looks really nice, if you are a good builder then go for it
