5The Spirit of Vengence apparently is also a great toy: a collector's reviewJul 07, 2010
This figure is great! This figure for me represents the best of what this line offers. A character that runs the risk of coming off hokey and silly as much as the Spectre might, actually comes off as elegant, simple, and for lack of a better word: beautiful. If toys were (are) art, than this is a masterpiece.
The standard DC male body type is used of course so it is like 90% retool. The articulation is standard and is a bit hindered by the cape but Spectre isn't known for his extreme poses anyway.
The great aspects that make this figure really worth getting does lie in the incredible detail put into the new pieces which are the head, hands, feet, and cape. The Four Horsemen team did a superb job in interpreting the long, grim face of the Spirit of Vengence. Not only that but the deft execution of the signature "conjuring" hands, collar, and hood simply enhance the quality of the figure.
The paint job though does an incrdible job of enhancing the sculpted detail Soft gray brushing on the exposed skin keeps the figure looking statuesque and less like some infants toy. The choice of using a darker green for the outfit serves up a fantastic contrast in color.
Even with the 90% retooling this figure feels new and fresh because of the attention to detail. Highly recommended for any figure collector.
P.S.- There is a glow in dark variant of this figure which is only good for the novelty of having a glowing spectre. It is not as good as the regular one in my opinion.

DC Universe Classics wave 12 (or you could call it the Darksied series) skewed a little more obscure than some past waves. They also have some updated packaging. We have here the Spectre. The Spectre spirit has had many hosts and acts as the embodiment of vengeance in the DC Universe doling out punishments that can sometimes be rather chilling.

For Kids:
Good solid figure - I'm just not sure many younger kids are going to know or get the character really. As a creepy ghost dude he'd be pretty fun and the kid fun factor goes up exponentially if you score the glow in the dark version.

For Adults:
If you're familiar with the Spectre at all I think you'll like this guy. He's deceptively simple, just a white guy in a cape and hood, but there's always been something about his look that pumps up his creepy cool factor. Maybe it's the face. They did a good job giving him kind of a long, dour, hollow looking face. The hands are in slightly pointing poses as if he's casting a spell and the cape and hood are well done and not overdone.

White and green is his color scheme. Green hood and cape, briefs, gloves and boots. I do not have the glow in the dark version (but I want one :-) but the regular does have a very light wash the subtlety brings out the details and around his eyes are dark.

No surprises in articulation - he's got, ball pin shoulders, pin elbows, cut wrists, ab crunch, cut waist, the universal hip joints, cut thighs, pin knees and ankles. My favorite is that they managed to still give him a cut neck so you can swivel his head even though it is covered in the hood. Cool.

All the figures in this wave come with a little collector button, the kind you pin to your shirt, with little comic pictures loosely related to the figure. His only other accessory is his piece of Darksied.

He may seem plain at first but his creepy vibe really amps up his coolness factor, at least with me. And the face sculpt and the cut neck are stand out features. Now I just need that glow in the dark version!

The Collect and Connect, Darksied, is a welcome addition to all the Fourth World characters. He stands a fairly impressive 8 ½" tall. His craggy skin looks just a touch soft to me in comparison with an older (but smaller) version of the character I have but he still looks pretty good. There's good detail despite that and even the bottom of his feet contain all that Fourth World circuitry. He's just as articulated as his smaller counterparts and even has a couple of accessories. One, he's got a Mother Box he can hold in his hand and that also will attach to the back of his belt. Two, he has an interchangeable right hand, one in the regular blue glove posed to hold the Mother Box and an open menacing golden gloved hand covered in circuits and machinery. He's not as impressive as I'd like but still a very good figure who deserves 4 stars.
