Evil Best PalApr 08, 2010 DC Universe Classics wave 12 (or you could call it the Darksied series) skewed a little more obscure than some past waves. They also have some updated packaging. Meet Desaad. He's Darksieds evil best pal, inventor and torturer.
For Kids:
While the figure is sturdy and fine for play I don't think many youngsters will be that interested. He's not a recognizable face nor is he very dynamic, although he is creepy and has a weird accessory.
For Adults:
The sculpt is deceptively complex with realistic looking wrinkles to his robe and a real skeevy expression on his face and his hair is slightly unkempt. He looks like an oily character. He's in a slightly hunched pose and his robe is about ankle length and posed as if he's permanently bent at the knees.
He's not too colorful and is primarily dominated by his purple colored robe. His black hair and the work on his face is well done though.
Articulation wise he's got, cut neck, although a bit limited due to the hood (unlike the Spectre) and his accessory, ball pin shoulders, pin elbows, cut wrists, cut waist, the universal hip joints (although limited due to the robe), cut thighs, pin knees and ankles and a cut at the top of the ankles.
All the figures in this wave come with a little collector button, the kind you pin to your shirt, with little comic pictures loosely related to the figure. Dessad has a pretty cool accessory although I don't know what it is. It's some grey Fourth World device hooked over his shoulders with a box in front with various dial and spools. Handing down from it are two short this pipes the bend in, then two cables with control sticks can go to each hand. I've not been able to get it off him but if you really want to you probably can. What is it though - I really hope it's not some kink of front jetpack because of where those pipes are pointing. He does not come with a piece of Darksied but rather a blue stand.
He's not a very exciting character but I can't deny the quality of the work he makes a great companion to Darksied of course. And I love the weirdness of his accessory (what is it?!) I'm feeling 3 ½ will round up today.
